Wanted: A Few Good Men (...and women, especially in State College!)Our AY Beta chapter at Penn State is looking for advisors. We need individuals to watch over the chapter and help them with their day-to-day needs, serving as a continuous support system to the undergraduate brothers. I have found, and others will agree, that the job is not easy, but the rewards far outweigh the challenges.
There are specific advisory roles available in areas like finance, pledge education, recruitment, risk management, and so on. You do not have to be an AY Beta or any Beta, in fact, to be an advisor. The chapter and board has been previously blessed with amazing people that proved themselves to the brotherhood....

AY Beta Captains Penn State (Auto) Racing Entry
You probably won’t find this on GoPSUSports.com but right before he graduated, AY’s
Adam Stroup ’13 led a team of engineers in the Formula SAE (FSAE) engineering competition. FSAE is the largest engineering competition in the world.
Adam and the Penn State Racing Team finished 35th out of 120 teams in the annual competition.
Each team is tasked with designing, building, testing, and competing with an open wheeled style race car. His team was made up of 35 students from a wide variety of engineering majors. The students work solely for the love of engineering, as there is no class credit given for the club.
It was a nice going away party for Adam, as he stated, “I have gained valuable leadership, teamwork and hands-on experience that will aid in my future career as an engineer.” He added, “I have graduated with a mechanical engineering degree and will be starting work at Ford Motor Company in September. I would love to get into racing someday!”
So for all you guys hopelessly sitting at the bottom of the Tesla wait list, get to know Adam. Maybe he can get you into a Ford version while you still have your eyesight.
Check these guys out on their
Facebook page or on their
website.

Dylan Wynn '13 Leads Team to an Engineering Design Project Win
Dylan Wynn ’13 was among the winners of 2013’s Student Design Project Showcase! Over 500 senior Penn State engineering students squared-off at the BJC this year. The showcase is the culmination of a semester-long effort that challenges students with solving industry-sponsored projects that expose them to the technical demands, pitfalls and professional expectations they will experience as working professional engineers.
The event featured 163 projects from first-year students through seniors, including 115 senior capstone projects involving a total of 560 seniors.
Projects were judged by a panel of industry experts and awarded at the industry partners’ dinner and award ceremony following the showcase event.
A top award went to “Rotor Wake Survey” sponsored by Boeing. AY’s Dylan Wynn was one of the key leaders in this effort.

The Decade Challenge: Brothers from the 60s Lead in Donor Participation
This year’s Decade Challenge report is in, and we’d like to thank our brothers from the 60s for being the decade of alums with the largest number of individual donors to our annual fund program so far this year!
Approximately 20 men from this era donated a total of $3,995 since our giving year began last September. So yes, there is definite strength in numbers!
We still have three months remaining in our giving year—and the brothers from the 50s and 80s aren’t too far behind. If you’d like to add your name to our distinguished Honor Roll of Donors, please make your gift today.

Rebuilding the Bridge at Alpha UpsilonAlumni Board President Terry Shine reports on the status of three ongoing goals and the collective effort to repair the "Bridge" at Alpha Upsilon. This letter is featured in the recent print edition of
Wooglines. In case you missed it, read on:
Dear Brother Beta,
When we began the effort to reconstruct the “Bridge” at Alpha Upsilon, we set three strategic goals for the efforts of our Brotherhood. I’d like to use this opportunity to remind you of those goals and provide a status report. As you will see, while we have made tremendous progress, the reconstruction project is incomplete.
GOAL ONE: Re-establishment of the active chapter / bringing our charter back to Alpha Upsilon.
Status: Complete. Through the work of many alumni and...

Beta Named THON Overall Chair
Ryan Patrick, a current senior at Penn State and an AY brother, has just been named the Penn State 2014 IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon Overall Chair. In terms of competition, this position is one of the most difficult to be elected to as an undergraduate at University Park. Out of the seven applications, only four were granted interviews and after hours of debate between the current Overall Committee, Ryan was official elected as the Overall.
Ryan’s dream and passion has become a reality and we all know that he will do his best and be the best in his position to “inspire tomorrow’s miracles” for the kids. Congratulations once again on this wonderful achievement!

"An Incredible Group of Actives"Thank you to
Dan Wilhelm '79 for sending us the following...
'"I got a chance to return to the House after a two-year absence in January. What an incredible group of actives. I stopped by on a night they had a coat and tie dinner social with the Thetas. To the man, they greeted me warmly and engaged in thoughtful conversation.
Still have a ways to go with the alumni but we're getting there."
